Leading with Spirit, Pride, and Honor
Highlandettes are a dance performance organization that represents Burnet High School with Spirit, Pride, and Honor through developing character, leadership and individual responsibility while maintaining high moral standards.
We bring energy and passion to every performance, proudly representing our school and community through the art of dance.
We honor the legacy of our team by committing ourselves to excellence, growth, and pushing beyond our limits.
We dance with integrity and heart, striving each day to be the strongest version of ourselves—on and off the field.
Prior to 1994, the Highlandettes did not have a team logo. The logo was a result of a tragic event. In the spring of 1994, Lacey Erin Laudenschlager, a junior Highlandette died in an automobile accident. Lacey was well known for being studious, well organized, thoughtful and energetic. She was also an impactful leader who convinced most in her driver’s education class to sign the organ donor section of their license. She had been a strong promoter for organ donors and, as a result was able to personally contribute to her advocacy.
Although Lacey’s death was sad and heartbreaking for BHS students and faculty, it was certainly not in vain. Lacey’s physical heart was given selflessly so another person had a chance at living a wonderful life.
After her death, some of the Highlandettes had an idea to create a logo that would honor her legacy. The logo became known as “Lacey’s Heart”. The shape of the heart is a pattern of lace, the top center is a rose, a favorite of Lacey’s – especially pink roses. And, of course, a dancer in the center to note that she was a Highlandette.
To this day, the Highlandettes honor Lacey’s memory every time they step onto the field or stage. They embody the values she represented—spirit, pride, and honor—and dedicate their love of dance to her legacy. “Lacey’s Heart” serves not only as a logo but as a daily reminder that her spirit lives on through the team’s unity, passion, and commitment to excellence.
